  BS 4395 is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for high-strength steel bolts, large hexagon nuts, and plain washers for structural engineering. These fasteners are commonly known as "General Grade" or "Non-Preloaded" structural bolts, designed for use in bolted connections where shear forces are carried by the bolt itself.

  The bolts are manufactured from medium carbon steel, which is heat-treated (quenched and tempered) to achieve high mechanical strength. The standard primarily covers Property Class 8.8, indicating a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 640 MPa. This high strength makes them suitable for critical, load-bearing applications.

  These bolts feature a large hexagonal head. This design provides a larger bearing surface and allows for higher torque application with standard wrenches, ensuring a tight and secure fit. The large head distributes clamp force more effectively, reducing the risk of damage to the connected materials.
